Art direction for a VR short film, “Age of Sail”. Concept art, prop designs, and location designs for a story set on the Atlantic Ocean, about an old pilot cutter captain from the age of sail. Set in a 360-degree VR environment, the vastness of the ocean plays a huge role in evoking a sense of hope and connection, with stylized water forms that retain a sense of painterly realism to exude the feeling of classic 19th century oil paintings. The art style of the characters are equally minimal yet expressive, using strong silhouettes to convey emotion through body language and gesture rather than excessive detail.
